With corporate headquarters in Lagos, marine support base & shipyard in Warri, dry-dock and fabrication facilities in Onne Oil & Gas Free Zone, WAV provides excellent offshore support services to the Nigerian Oil & Gas sector.

Job Title: Assistant Technical Manager

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Responsibilities

• The Assistant Technical Manager reports to the Manager Marine Assets, WAVentures Lagos. The (Assistant) Technical Manager has a cooperative relationship with the HSE Manager, Sales & Marketing Manager, Human Resources Manager, General Manager, Operations Manager and Chartering Manager and works in close contact with WAVentures Projects, The Technical Department including Technical team leader Onne, Superintendents, Technical Coordinators and Vessel Chief Engineers report regarding daily matters to the Assistant Technical Manager.
• The Assistant Technical Manager may direct any member of the Technical Department.
• Provide an on time, safe, reliable, and cost effective technical service operation for all Lagos managed assets
• Works in close cooperation with the Manager Marine Assets
• Create an environment of continuous improvement
• Identify, manage and monitor risks
• Advise on the technical operations of all vessels owned or operated by WAVentures
• Liaise closely with the vessels’ masters and chief engineers to ensure the vessels hulls, machinery and equipment are operated efficiently and maintained in good condition
• Ensures that all personnel under the control of the technical manager are suitably qualified
• Ensure the compliance of the vessels to the ISM Code within his area of responsibility and planned maintenance of the vessels is correctly applied
• To provide specialist advice and recommendations on all important technical issues affecting the vessels
• To identify opportunities to improve technical issues to increase customer service and company value
• To supervise and manage the introduction of the STAR IPS system on all vessels and in the office
• To work in close relation with the procurement department and approves purchase orders and advise on spare parts,consumbles and equipmnent for WAVentures Assets
• Takes over the duties of the Technical Teamleader Onne and Manager Marine Assets during their leave at their respective location.

HSEQ Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead by example in demonstrating the correct behavior in implementing all HSE programmers
• Recognize the ‘ownership' of health, safety and environmental control within their sphere of activity and lead by example.
• Require reporting Supervisors to demonstrate effective control over health, safety and environmental responsibilities
• Meet or exceed company and regulatory requirements and strive for continuous improvement.
• Ensure implementation of strategies through Performance and Results program
• Ensure that a chain of command exists whereby responsibility and authority for safety matters are clearly determined, documented and understood
• Make arrangements for the necessary training, including induction training, of all personnel under their control in the safe working procedures relevant to their activities.
• Ensure that all staff under their control are adequately qualified and experienced for the jobs they undertake
• Include health and safety objectives in job appraisal systems within their area of responsibility
• Ensure arrangements are in place for the co-ordination and control of Sub-Contractor activities
• Provide working conditions, which are justified as maintaining acceptable levels of safety and a healthy environment for all operations.
• Ensure all relevant workplace safety inspections etc takes place
• Ensure that the relevant risk assessments are undertaken and reviewed.
• Ensure and maintain all safeguards and controls as required by the Safe System of Work / Risk Assessment
• Ensure that there is adequate provision and necessary allocation of time for Health, Safety and Environmental management
• Communicate HSE Policy and Processes to supervisors and staff.
• Maintain effective consultation in respect of Health, Safety and Environmental management. Include Health, Safety and Environment as an agenda item in all meetings.
• Attend HSE meetings
• Take action in accordance with the Company disciplinary procedures for those who are negligent in failing to follow established safety and environmental procedures or misuse equipment provided for their health and safety

Key Performance Indicators

• The ability to effectively assist in managing the Technical Department and maintain high staff retention
• Able to communicate effectively and articulately at all levels
• Demonstrate excellent management of technical issues especially vessel availability
• Understanding, implementation and compliance with all applicable international Rules, Regulations, Legislation, Codes, Guidelines, Standards and Specifications
• Total commitment to, and leadership of, the WAVentures SMS
• Effective motivation of all staff (at sea and ashore) to execute their activities in a professional manner in accordance with the WAVentures SMS
• Identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities for the SMS

Requirements

• Qualified Engineer perferably with chief engineers experience and large Technical Superintendent experience
• Experience on AHTS vessels and/or barges is perferred
• DP experience is a pre
• Experience in similar position is not necessary.
• A driven and hands on mentality is absolutely needed
• Knowledge of the technical lay out of the WAVentures operated Assets
• Pleasant disposition with the capability to be authoritative when necessary
• Clear and effective oral and written communication skills in English language
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of principle discipline and peripheral subjects
• Strong co-ordination, organisation and liaison skills with the ability to seek and gain consensus solutions to complex issues
